Apples & Oranges
Well, maybe you can’t compare apples and oranges, but you can certainly put them together and make a very nice, refreshing beverage. Hard cider has been a favorite of mine for years now, and my favorite is probably Woodchuck’s Dark & Dry. [For all you 930 Club fans, D&D is available on tap at the uppermost bar.] Cointreau, a venerable French liqueur made from bitter oranges, has been made by the Cointreau family since 1875, and until last year, it was the only product they made. Starting in 2008, however, they began to produce and sell Cointreau Noir, a blend of Cointreau and Remy Martin Cognac. Not quite as sweet as the original product, Cointreau Noir still fills your mouth with the bold flavor of bitter orange, but now it is followed by a lovely Cognac finish. It’s great by itself, but mix it with hard apple cider, and voila—Apples & Oranges! Enjoy!
